About Us

The Utah County Bookmobile exists to serve residents of Utah County by providing popular materials and providing quality library service.

While all residents of Utah County are eligible for service, the Utah County Bookmobile primarily serves those residents of unincorporated Utah County and residents of cities that do not have municipal library service provided to them.

The Utah County Bookmobile provides current topics and titles in a variety of formats to help fulfill the community residents’ need for information about popular culture and social trends and their requests for recreational information and experiences.

The staff will be knowledgeable about current popular interests and will anticipate publishing trends and "hot" titles.

 History

The Utah County Bookmobile came into being in Fall 1975. By the following spring, it was operating two bookmobile vehicles to provide services to the County. For twenty years, it was housed in rented facilities in Spanish Fork, first in the old school building and then in two buildings on Main Street. At that time, the fixed facility was not open to the public. In 1995, the library became a guest of the city of Mapleton housed in a former grocery store and pizza parlor. During this time Ed Walker was the librarian, followed by Kent Slade.  In 2005, a new bookmobile was built by Tesco-Williamsen of Salt Lake City and began runs in August.  In 2006 Mapleton constructed a new city hall that included space for a new library.  As neighboring regions were transferred to other library jurisdictions, the Utah County Bookmobile Library shrank. It now operates one mobile unit in the County and served Alpine, Cedar Fort, Whitehills, Saratoga Springs, Lakeshore, Benjamin, West Mountain, Springdell, Springlake, Elberta, Goshen, Genola, Birdseye, and Covered Bridge.
