History
The Utah County Bookmobile came into being in Fall 1975. By the following spring, it was operating two bookmobile vehicles to provide services to the County. For twenty years, it was housed in rented facilities in Spanish Fork, first in the old school building and then in two buildings on Main Street. At that time, the fixed facility was not open to the public. In 1995, the library became a guest of the city of Mapleton housed in a former grocery store and pizza parlor. During this time Ed Walker was the librarian, followed by Kent Slade. In 2005, a new bookmobile was built by Tesco-Williamsen of Salt Lake City and began runs in August. In 2006 Mapleton constructed a new city hall that included space for a new library. As neighboring regions were transferred to other library jurisdictions, the Utah County Bookmobile Library shrank. It now operates one mobile unit in the County and served Alpine, Cedar Fort, Whitehills, Saratoga Springs, Lakeshore, Benjamin, West Mountain, Springdell, Springlake, Elberta, Goshen, Genola, Birdseye, and Covered Bridge.
