History
The Utah County Bookmobile came into being in Fall 1975. By the following spring, it was operating two bookmobile vehicles to provide services to the County. For twenty years, it was housed in rented facilities in Spanish Fork, first in the old school building and then in two buildings on Main Street. At that time, the fixed facility was not open to the public. In 1995, the library became a guest of the city of Mapleton housed in a former grocery store and pizza parlor.
In 2005, a new bookmobile truck was built by Tesco-Williamsen of Salt Lake City and began running that August. In 2006, Mapleton constructed a new city hall that included space for a new library. The bookmobile office and repositiory library is now housed there and operates as the library open to all residents of Utah County.
It now operates one mobile unit in the County and serves Alpine, Benjamin, Birdseye, Cedar Fort, Covered Bridge, Elberta, Genola, Goshen, Lakeshore, Mapleton, Saratoga Springs, Springdell, Springlake, West Mountain and White Hills.
